Why is it important to work with Agency’s who are REC Members?
Member agencies are regularly, independently inspected so you can be sure that their basic practices have been approved as safe and legal. Member agencies sign up to a code of practice, mandating that they must live up to the principles of:

• Respect for Honesty and Transparency
• Respect for Work Relationships
• Respect for Diversity
• Respect for Safety
• Respect for Professional Knowledge
• Respect for Certainty of Engagement
• Respect for Prompt and Accurate Payment
• Respect for Ethical International Recruitment
• Respect for Confidentiality and Privacy
This will also ensure that your Agency receives regular briefings and updates on changes to the law and best practice in recruitment, so you can be assured their knowledge is up to speed with
the changing environment.

What Recruitment do you specialise in?
We are industry focused versus job type focused and as professional recruiters have taken on projects as diverse as the full Recruitment function for blue-chip companies, recruited Engineers and subsequently managed them across sites in Europe, recruited senior managers, support teams, engineers, accountants. We work on creative solutions for staffing needs both for our client organisations and our candidate community.

What documentation do I need when registering with Merit if I am looking for temporary work?
You will need to provide right to work documentation, either an in date passport and visa if applicable, or birth certificate coupled with a national insurance card. If you are registering for temporary work we can also take a copy of your bank details; however this is not essential upon registration and can be provided on the first day of your temporary assignment to ensure that you are paid on time.
I am a UK National. Do I need to provide right to work documents?
Merit are required to take a copy of your original right to work documentation. As an employer we are prohibited from employing anyone who is not permitted to undertake the work in questions. With this in mind, and under the Equalities Act, our recruitment practice is to treat all job applicants in the same way.

Do I have to pay you (Merit Recruitment, MWRC, Merit Hygiene Services) to find me work?
No, Merit do not charge candidates for the employment service.

Why is it important for me to visit Merit/meet with the consultant before interviewing with the client?
Merit believe that only by meeting with candidates and clients alike, are we in a position to ensure that we are putting forward the right person to the right company for them Our governing body, the REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) require us, as good practise, to meet with our candidates and if this is not possible to inform our Clients.

How will I be notified about a job vacancy?
A Merit consultant may contact you via various different mediums, depending on your request. This could be by phone, email, text message, twitter, facebook, Linked In, and not forgetting to mention our own Merit website where we advertise our job vacancies www.merit.eu.com. Alternatively call us – we welcome phone calls!
I’ve seen a position I’m interested in, how do I apply?

Absolutely, we are committed as an equal opportunity employer in providing support to you throughout the application and interview process. Merit are located on the first floor of the Haymarket House, up one flight of stairs with no lift access. If this make our offices inaccessible for you please call us ahead of your visit and we will be delighted to organise an alternative location for a consultant to interview you.
Being Basingstoke based does this mean that you only work with candidates/ companies in the Basingstoke area?
No, Merit recruit for clients and work to place candidates both locally, nationally and internationally.
